Sailing: Halliday bags Hong Kong’s first gold at 15th National Games

Hong Kong's Olympian sailor Nicholas Bezy Halliday won the first gold medal for the city at the 15th National Games in Guangdong on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old topped the podium with a net score of 33 points in the men's ILCA 7 discipline in the coastal city of Shanwei, surpassing Tang Yuanshuai from Shanxi by seven points.

Halliday finished fourth in the 11th round of the second stage on Wednesday afternoon. After deducting his worst finish, he secured the gold medal with a net score of 33 points.

Jiangsu's Luo Junsuo took bronze.

“This is a demonstration of his strength and perseverance. All Hong Kong people, like myself, are proud of his achievement,” she said in a statement.

Saying that Halliday winning the gold medal victory is especially meaningful, the sports chief wished that the Hong Kong, China delegation will continue to unleash their potential and achieve remarkable results in other events.
