VILNIUS - Flights to and from Vilnius Airport were once again temporarily suspended on Saturday evening, the Baltic News Service (BNS) reported.

Air traffic was halted at 9:32 pm local time, with operations expected to resume around 2 am on Sunday.

Preliminary data indicated that the unidentified objects detected on radar were likely meteorological balloons. Passengers were advised to follow updates from the airport and their airlines for the latest information.

It is the second consecutive night and the third time this week that flights at Vilnius Airport have been suspended.

A large number of contraband-carrying balloons entered Lithuanian airspace twice this week -- overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday and again from Friday to Saturday -- according to local media reports. Late on Friday, Kaunas Airport also temporarily restricted air traffic.

In total, about 70 flights and over 10,000 passengers were affected by the week's disruptions.
