WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will deploy troops to Portland, the state of Oregon, to handle "domestic terrorists."

"I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists," Trump said in a social media post.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson said in a statement in early September that, like other mayors across the country, he had not requested nor did he need "federal intervention."

On Saturday, Wilson said that "the number of necessary troops is zero, in Portland and any other American city" after Trump ordered "all necessary Troops" to the city.

Trump had earlier deployed troops to Los Angeles and Washington, DC, which drew protests.
