Chinese mainland gold-jewelry makers are exploring more opportunities to expand their global presence in Hong Kong, as they showcased their latest hard pure gold products on the international stage at one of the world’s largest jewelry and gemstone shows.
Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong 2025 (JGW), a premier business-to-business marketplace for the jewelry industry, was held from Monday at AsiaWorld-Expo and Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in the special administrative region. The seven-day fair brought together more than 3,000 exhibitors from 45 countries and regions, and featured scores of themed pavilions.
Among the most dazzling pavilions was the hard pure gold pavilion hosted by the World Gold Council, which featured 14 leading mainland gold jewelry manufacturers and marked the launch of this new type of gold jewelry.

Hard pure gold is an innovative gold category, producing gold using special technologies that enhance durability compared with traditional pure gold, while maintaining a minimum purity of 99 percent. These features enable hard pure gold to be used for more intricate and lighter jewelry designs.
Despite the headwinds of soaring gold prices worldwide, hard pure gold jewelry has stood out and become popular among many consumers, particularly young generations, because of its diverse designs and its lightweight nature, said Huang Wenchan, general manager of Shenzhen Cuilu Jewelry Manufacturing Co Ltd, one of the exhibitors.
Huang said that beyond strong demand in the domestic market, hard pure gold jewelry has also gained traction in Southern Asian markets such as Malaysia in recent years. However, she said she believes that “it still needs time” to gain broader recognition in other overseas markets.
To boost global awareness of Chinese hard pure gold jewelry, the WGC has launched an initiative, “New Silk Road – Hard Pure Gold Going Global”, aimed at helping Chinese jewelry manufacturers expand internationally. Wang Lixin, WGC’s regional chief executive officer for China, said the council has organized several delegations of Chinese firms to visit markets that include Southeast Asia and the Middle East to better understand local consumer preferences and industry environments.

“This time, we chose to participate in JGW because it is one of the largest events in Hong Kong,” Wang said. “Hong Kong is an international platform with more access to the world. Choosing here to make the first appearance of Chinese hard pure gold jewelry is extremely natural, and it is a terrific opportunity for domestic enterprises to go global through Hong Kong in the future.”
Lionel Chau, assistant to the CEO and director of supply chain at Batar Group, a Shenzhen-based jewelry manufacturer with an office in the SAR, added, “As Hong Kong imposes relatively few import and export restrictions, it offers greater convenience for end-to-end business operations.”
Chau said Hong Kong has a vital role as a gateway for mainland companies to access global markets, describing the city as a “transition hub”. He added that the group plans to further expand business into Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets, and make inroads into the North American market in the future.
