In the meantime, local media outlet Tolonews reported that the meeting focused on expanding bilateral relations, matters related to detained citizens, and investment in Afghanistan. Both sides emphasized the need for continued discussions regarding detainees.

Afghanistan has released at least two American citizens since early this year, and reportedly, another American, Mahmood Habibi, is still held in the country.
