Chinese shares close lower Wednesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.16 percent to 3,813.56 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent lower at 12,472 points.

The combined turnover of these two indices stood at 2.36 trillion yuan (about $331.9 billion) -- down from 2.87 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks in photovoltaics, precious metals and gaming led the gains, while shares related to minor metals, securities, software development and agriculture led the declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.95 percent to close at 2,899.37 points on Wednesday.
