BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday congratulated Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Indonesia.

In his congratulatory message, Xi said that over the past 80 years, Indonesia has achieved remarkable development and is playing an increasingly important role on the international and regional stage.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Indonesia. Bilateral relations have made great strides, and traditional friendship has grown ever stronger over time, he added.

Last year, Xi noted, he and Prabowo held two successful meetings and reached important consensus on building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future that has regional and global influence, taking bilateral ties to a new level.
