Hong Kong sees 12% rise in arrivals, boosted by long-haul visitors

HONG KONG – The number of visitors to Hong Kong in July increased by 12 percent compared with the same month last year, with arrivals from long-haul markets rising by more than 20 percent year-on-year.

The city recorded 4.39 million visitor arrivals provisionally last month, according to data released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) on Friday.

Cumulatively, Hong Kong received about 28 million visitors in the first seven months of the year, which also marks a 12-percent increase from the same period in 2024.

Among the visitors, 21.3 million were from the Chinese mainland, while the rest 6.72 million came from other markets, increasing by 10 percent and 16 percent year-on-year, respectively.

In July, the number of inbound visitors from short-haul markets rose by 12 percent year-on-year, with Japan and China’s Taiwan region showing an outstanding increase, the HKTB data showed.

The main growth in visitor arrivals from long-haul markets came from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, France and Germany, added the HKTB.
