CHENGDU - The wushu routines competition at the Chengdu World Games concluded Saturday night with International Wushu Federation (IWUF) Secretary-General Zhang Yuping calling the event "near perfect" and voicing confidence that the sport will one day join the Summer Olympic Games.

"Whether in terms of organization or performance level, this was a truly eye-opening international event," she said.
Team China captured two gold medals in the event, while Hong Kong, China also took two and Iran and Malaysia each claimed one, with Zhang noting that Asia remains the sport's strongest region due to its long history and deep grassroots support, but adding that competition is rapidly intensifying worldwide.

"In the past, a small mistake might not have cost us the gold, but now the level is so close that every detail matters," she said. "This marks a new stage in wushu's development, and it's no longer dominated by a single power."
Wushu is set to debut as an official medal event at the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games. Zhang said she recently visited Dakar to meet with organizers and was encouraged by their preparations.

"Its appearance at The World Games is already a success. Entering the Youth Olympics is another milestone, and we have taken a new step forward," she said.
"Step by step, we are moving forward toward our goal," Zhang said. "I believe that one day wushu will enter the Summer Olympics and take its place on the highest stage of the Olympic family."
