Heavy rain drenched Hong Kong on Monday morning, prompting the city’s observatory to issue the red rainstorm warning signal.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued the red rainstorm alert at 12:20 pm. The warning stated that heavy rain, exceeding 50 millimeters per hour, is expected to continue across the territory and that these conditions are likely to persist. The Education Bureau has announced that all afternoon classes will be suspended due to severe weather conditions.
Earlier in the morning, the observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning at 6:30 am, which was then canceled at 9:00 am. Subsequently, the amber signal was reissued at 10:25 am and later upgraded to the red alert, which was downgraded to the amber warning at 1:25 pm.

The risk of flash floods is high as heavy rain persists, particularly affecting watercourses where flooding is already occurring or is imminent, said the city's weather forecaster. A spokesperson for the government advised the public to report any instances of street flooding to the Drainage Services Department by calling their 24-hour hotline at 2300 1110.
