The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Thursday inaugurated the second Belt and Road International Training Workshop on Space Science and Utilization, marking the program's debut in Hong Kong. The two-week event will run through Aug 5.
Jointly organized by the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, HKUST, and the Hong Kong Institute of Science and Innovation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the workshop has attracted over 20 participants from space agencies, international organizations, academia and industry, along with the nations and regions participating the Belt and Road Initiative.
This UNESCO-certified program focuses on three key areas: discussing strategic planning for manned space science, exploring space station experimental capabilities and cutting-edge technologies, and analyzing international cooperation models in manned space programs, including project management and knowledge-sharing mechanisms.

Regarding the experimental capabilities and cutting-edge technology exploration of the manned space station, this session will provide a detailed introduction to the scientific facility resources, experimental conditions and requirements onboard the space station, as well as the validation and application of advanced space science experiment technologies, details of the program noted.
Notably, the program will facilitate international peers to gain an in-depth understanding of China’s space station utilization.
“China has always been an active practitioner in the peaceful use of outer space, committed to fostering an open, inclusive, fair and shared international space cooperation environment. China's manned space program adheres to the principles of openness, transparency and benefit-sharing, with special attention to the needs of developing countries,” said the university.
This training program serves as a vital window for international peers to understand the research resources and cooperation opportunities aboard China's space station, the university added.
