Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng will travel to Sweden from July 27 to 30 to hold economic and trade talks with the United States, as agreed by both sides, the Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday.

The two sides will make full use of the economic and trade consultation mechanism and continue discussions on issues of mutual concern, based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, the ministry said.

Also on Wednesday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the US would work with China to strengthen cooperation based on equality, respect and mutual benefit to drive the stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral relations after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he would meet with Chinese officials in Stockholm next week.

Bessent told a media outlet on Tuesday that the meetings with Chinese officials would take place next Monday and Tuesday, when they would discuss an extension to the deadline for negotiating a trade deal between the two countries.

"China's position on economic and trade issues has always been consistent and clear," the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Guo Jiakun told reporters.

Guo said he hoped that the US can work together with China to implement the important consensus reached between leaders of the two countries, leverage the role of the China-US economic and trade negotiation mechanism, as well as enhance consensus through dialogue to reduce misunderstandings and enhance cooperation.
