PHNOM PENH - The number of suspects arrested in crackdown operations on online scam centers in Cambodia has risen to more than 3,000, Information Minister Neth Pheaktra said Tuesday midnight.
Pheaktra, who is also a member of the Ad-Hoc Committee to Combat Online Scams, said the authorities have raided a total of 58 locations in 17 cities and provinces out of the kingdom's 25 cities and provinces.

"A total of 3,075 suspects, including 606 women, have been detained during the raids," he said in a text message sent to the media by telegram.
Pheaktra said the arrests had been made from June 27 to July 22, as operations are still going on.
He said some suspected ringleaders have been sent to courts for prosecution, as most of the suspects will be deported back to their birth countries.

The Southeast Asian country launched an unprecedented nationwide crackdown on cyber scam networks, aiming at maintaining and protecting security, public order, and social safety.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has warned of firing any officials who hinder these crackdown operations.
