Artistic treasures spanning millennia
Dunhuang Splendors—Culture and Art Exhibition of Mogao Grottoes will begin on Saturday in Shenzhen.
Hailed as South China's largest Dunhuang exhibition, it will feature 205 sets of precious exhibits. The exhibition combines physical objects with multimedia displays to present the profound connotations of Dunhuang culture.
The four-month exhibition will showcase scarce collections. The six restored caves on display are all specially protected, including Cave 3 and Cave 285, which were not open to the public before. Cave 275, the oldest in the Mogao Grottoes, will have its entire cave digitally reproduced for the first time.
The exhibition will display more than 60 precious copies by older generation artists from the Dunhuang Academy, such as Chang Shuhong and Duan Wenjie, as well as 84 sets of rare cultural relic originals.
The exhibition will showcase a remarkable collection of artifacts from the northern area of the Mogao Grottoes, including several pieces making their inaugural appearance in museum displays.
