SINGAPORE - Life expectancy at birth for Singaporean residents increased by 0.9 years over the past decade, reaching 83.5 years in 2024, up from 82.6 years in 2014, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics on Tuesday.
Similarly, life expectancy at age 65 rose from 20.6 years in 2014 to 21.2 years in 2024, the department said in a report.
Male and female residents both saw improvements in life expectancy at birth, rising to 81.2 years and 85.6 years, respectively, in 2024, compared to 80.3 years and 84.8 years in 2014.
The 2024 figure also marks a 0.3-year increase from 2023, when life expectancy at birth stood at 83.2 years.

The report noted that data from 2020 to 2023 were affected by elevated mortality rates during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in 2021 and 2022. As these higher mortality rates are assumed to apply throughout a lifetime, life expectancy estimates for those years may not accurately represent the number of years individuals can expect to live, should mortality rates return to pre-pandemic levels.
