MEXICO CITY - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum pledged Wednesday to continue pushing for lower tariffs on vehicles exported outside the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Her remarks came after the United States recently lowered tariffs from 25 percent to 15 percent on vehicles manufactured in Mexico that meet USMCA requirements - a move Sheinbaum welcomes.

"For vehicles not covered by the trade agreement, we're still seeking mechanisms to reduce those tariffs," she said at a daily press briefing.

Mexico, she said, is negotiating preferential terms for US tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Sheinbaum reaffirmed opposition to any potential taxes on remittances sent by Mexican migrants living in the United States.
