BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.38 percent to 3,380.48 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.77 percent higher at 10,249.17 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.17 trillion yuan (about $163 billion), up from 1.09 trillion yuan the previous trading day.
Shares related to paper-making and medical equipment led the gains, while those in the chemical fiber and ceramics sectors were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.77 percent to close at 2,048.46 points Tuesday.
