BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.61 percent to 3,128.48 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.35 percent lower at 9,638.82 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to 864.4 billion yuan (about $121.75 billion), from 968.69 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Shares related to cellular immunotherapy and poultry husbandry led the gains, while those related to real estate services and AI corpus declined.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.45 percent to close at 1,865.11 points Wednesday.
