Cisco, Cyberport to establish AI lab in Hong Kong

HONG KONG — Global technology giant Cisco announced on Tuesday that it will partner with Hong Kong's flagship incubator Cyberport to establish an artificial intelligence lab as part of the collaborations identified in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two sides.

Under the MoU, Cyberport and Cisco will make joint efforts to set up an AI lab at Cyberport, demonstrating how AI network fabrics revolutionize AI workloads with superior programmability, performance, and insights, to enable a cost-effective and robust infrastructure for the optimization of AI applications.

"Cisco is committed to the vision of a smarter, more secure digital future for Hong Kong," said Fernando Gil de Bernabe, chief operating officer of Cisco Asia Pacific, adding that Cisco will provide technology as well as talent development support for Hong Kong's digital transformation.

Sun Dong, secretary for innovation, technology and industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, said that Hong Kong has many distinctive advantages in developing the innovation and technology sector, being home to five of the world's top 100 universities and top-notch research labs.

The HKSAR government has been stepping up support for the innovation and technology sector, aiming to build the city into a global innovation and technology hub. The Cyberport is on track to set up the city's AI supercomputing center, with a view to supporting the huge demand for computing power and promoting related industry development.
