HONG KONG - The Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has bashed the so-called resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which defames Hong Kong's national security legislation, supports anti-China rioters in Hong Kong and calls for sanctions against Hong Kong.

National security legislation is a common international practice, the spokesperson said, adding that the enactment of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance by the HKSAR is part of its constitutional responsibility to safeguard national security, and it is also the HKSAR's duty to implement the Hong Kong Basic Law, the relevant decisions of the National People's Congress and the national security law in Hong Kong.

European countries themselves have established a tight legal network to safeguard national security, but they wantonly discredit the legitimate legislation of other countries and regions, fully exposing their double standards and ulterior motives, the spokesperson argued.

European countries themselves have established a tight legal network to safeguard national security, but they wantonly discredit the legitimate legislation of other countries and regions, fully exposing their double standards and ulterior motives, said a spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR

The spokesperson underscored that no one has the privilege to be above the law, and Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law. The law enforcement and judicial organs of the HKSAR handle cases in accordance with the law.

The European Parliament has made excuses for criminals and blatantly interfered in the judiciary in Hong Kong, which is a travesty and infringement of the spirit of the rule of law, the spokesperson added.

All sectors in the HKSAR have made great efforts to safeguard national security, which has won the respect and support of the people of both Hong Kong and elsewhere across China, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson pointed out that the European Parliament's blatant clamor for sanctions against HKSAR officials performing their duties is nothing but a bluff political show, which will not shake the firm resolve of the central and HKSAR governments to administrate Hong Kong in accordance with the law and safeguard national security.

Hong Kong's shift from stability to prosperity is irreversible and unstoppable, the spokesperson reiterated, urging the European Parliament to earnestly respect the spirit of the rule of law, abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, and immediately stop its futile efforts to interfere in the rule of law in Hong Kong, its hegemonic acts by threatening with sanctions, and interference in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs at large for any reason.
