Researchers at the JFS Laboratory in Wuhan, Hubei province, have developed an advanced chip that enables cost-effective production and technical solutions in the manufacture of high-performance photonic devices.

The breakthrough chip was created in February by bonding an 8-inch silicon photonics wafer with a lithium niobate wafer. Combining the two wafers creates a new device that can send and receive light signals carrying data with high efficiency.
