Qin calls on China, Eritrea to further strategic partnership

BEIJING – Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang on Wednesday called for joint endeavors to push for the new development of the China-Eritrea strategic partnership.

Qin made the remarks when exchanging congratulatory messages with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to celebrate the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

Over the past 30 years, China-Eritrea relations have maintained healthy and steady development with continuous achievements in pragmatic cooperation, Qin said, adding that in recent years, the two sides have deepened political mutual trust, continuously expanded pragmatic cooperation, and maintained close coordination in international and regional affairs.

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki paid a state visit to China not long ago, and the two countries' heads of state reached a series of important consensuses on promoting bilateral relations and deepening pragmatic cooperation in various fields, Qin said, adding that he is willing to join hands with Foreign Minister Osman to implement the consensuses reached by the two countries' heads of state and jointly push for the new development of China-Eritrea strategic partnership.

Osman said Eritrea attaches great importance to its bilateral friendly relations with China, which enjoys a long history. The strategic partnership between the two countries is rooted in the spirit of mutual support and solidarity between the two peoples.

China and Eritrea have conducted close exchanges and mutual visits at all levels, carried out communication and coordination on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, and promoted international and regional peace and stability, he added.

For the past three decades, the two countries have achieved remarkable results in cooperation in such fields as trade, investment, education, and vocational and technical training, Osman said, noting that he is looking forward to working with China to further promote the development of Eritrea-China relations in the future.
