BEIJING - China's top political advisory body has expressed strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to a resolution smearing China's human rights conditions that was passed by House of Councillors, the upper house of the Japanese Diet, on Dec 5.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference issued a statement on Sunday, saying that the passage of the resolution grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, seriously violates international law and basic norms governing international relations, and violates the principles of the four China-Japan political documents.

The so-called resolution cobbled together by the Japanese side is a political provocation to all the Chinese people and harms China-Japan relations

The Constitution of the People's Republic of China specifically stipulates that "the state respects and safeguards human rights." China has adhered to a people-centered approach to human rights, promoted human rights through development and advanced the whole-process people's democracy, attaining remarkable achievements in promoting and protecting human rights. China has made huge contributions to the cause of human rights of humanity. This is a fact recognized by the international community.

In disregard of the facts, some political forces in Japan have politicized and instrumentalized human rights issues. They followed other countries' steps to hype up China-related issues and maliciously smeared China for their own selfish gains. Their malicious intentions are clearly revealed, which is despicable and doomed to fail.

The wars of aggression launched by the Japanese militarists in the past inflicted profound sufferings on the Chinese people and the peoples of other Asian countries. These constituted serious crimes against humanity. The Japanese right-wing forces have shown no remorse for Japan's history of aggression. Instead, they have made irresponsible remarks against other countries, which is unacceptable to the Chinese people and all the peace-loving people in the world.

Japan has turned a blind eye to its own human rights problems and made the wrong decision to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea in an extremely irresponsible manner, violating the human rights of people of various countries including their rights to life and health. Japan is in no way qualified to point fingers at other countries.

The so-called resolution cobbled together by the Japanese side is a political provocation to all the Chinese people and harms China-Japan relations. We urge the Japanese side to immediately stop interfering in China's internal affairs and put a halt to such political farce.
