Xi praises model Chinese industrialist

NANJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping praised a late Chinese industrialist as a model for all Chinese private entrepreneurs on Thursday.

President Xi Jinping said Nantong Museum should be turned into a base for patriotic education among the public especially the country's youth, so that they will have firm confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics

Xi, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during a visit to Nantong Museum on his inspection tour to east China's Jiangsu province.

Xi watched exhibits introducing Zhang Jian, founder of the museum and a Chinese industrialist and educator in the late 19th and early 20th century, and learned about how Zhang ran businesses that benefited the nation, developed education and took part in public welfare activities.

He said Zhang's work had profound significance in promoting local public welfare.

Hailing Zhang's deeds as being of educational significance, Xi said the museum should be turned into a base for patriotic education among the public especially the country's youth, so that they will have firm confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
