BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region chief executive Leung Chun-ying in Beijing on Friday.

Leung arrived in Beijing yesterday to report his work to the Central Government. 

Xi praised Leung and the HKSAR government's achievement in promoting the city's political reform gradually and in accordance with the law. Xi said under the leadership of Leung, the HKSAR government had worked hard to improve people's livelihood and maintain stability in the SAR.

Earlier on Friday, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also met with Leung and Macao Special Administrative Region chief executive Chui Sai On.

During the meeting in Zhongnanhai, Li said the Central Government's basic policy to Hong Kong has not changed and would not change in the future.

He also praised Leung's achievement "in the face of difficulties".

In return, Leung thanked Beijing for its support, in particular, for pushing through the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect scheme.
