Coronavirus: 65 HK residents stranded in Peru return home

HONG KONG – A flight brought in 65 Hong Kong residents who were stranded in Peru arrived in the city on Sunday afternoon. 

All passengers on the flight would be tested for coronavirus infection at a temporary center in AsiaWorld-Expo. Only those who will test negative can go home and quarantine themselves for 14 days as part of a mandatory requirement.

The flight from the South American country was arranged by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government. It arrived in London in the early hours of Sunday.

The Hong Kong passengers were later transferred to a connecting flight to Hong Kong. The cost of taking the flights was on a user-pay basis.

A spokesperson of the Immigration Department said it had received requests for assistance from 98 Hong Kong residents stranded in Peru. Of them, 13 Hong Kong residents left Peru by other means.
